World in focus at Stourbridge gallery exhibition
He has travelled the world but chooses to take photographs of the alleyways and back streets of towns and cities.
Stourbridge-born Andrew Gurnett has returned to settle in the Midlands after many years in Singapore where he worked as a corporate trainer.
In his spare time he would pick up his camera and seek out the places ignored by most tourists as a focus for his photography.
His work has been widely exhibited in Singapore and the UK and now a collection of his images can be seen at the General Office gallery in Stourbridge.
Simon Meddings, of General Office, said: "The images are tied together by Andrew’s passion for uncovering the beauty of the everyday. He often shuns traditional beauty in his photography.
"He has an ability to capture abstracted views of the urban landscape so that they often look like paintings."
Mr Gurnett, who attended Stourbridge College, lived in Singapore for 20 years and continues to travel the world in his job.
"In this role Andrew uses his eye for composition and detail to teach clients how to make sure that their presentation slides stimulate their audiences," said Mr Meddings.
The gallery, at 12 Hagley Road, opened a year ago providing studio space for artists but also hoping to help fill the cultural gap following the closure of Dudley Museum and Art Gallery.
The gallery owners also help to design exhibitions, including the Staffordshire Hoard, at other venues around the Midlands. The show runs until November 23, and is open Tuesday–Saturday 11am – 4pm.
