Ground crews are putting the final pieces in place ahead of the huge bonfire at the Dudley beauty spot on Saturday.

The Mayor of Dudley, councillor David Stanley, was given a tour of the site alongside principal sponsor Wates Living Space.

Councillor Stanley said: "It was great to see all the work and preparation at Himley Hall and Park today, we didn’t see any wildlife on our walk around the bonfire pallets but the teams will continue to check right up until the event.

"I would like to remind everyone that tickets are still on sale and that people can save significant amounts off the gate price when they book online now."

To mark the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing, which took place during Apollo 11 in 1969, this year's theme has been dubbed "To The Moon And Back".

Organisers are hoping to capture the crowds' imagination by showcasing this momentous event.

The bonfire has been sponsored by a variety of organisations which has allowed the event to go ahead.

Other sponsors include Intu Merry Hill, K2 Services Ltd, Promarco and Ruskin Properties.

Rowenna Valintine, community investment manager at Wates Living Space, said: "We are thrilled to be sponsors of this year’s Himley Bonfire and it was a pleasure to join the Mayor of Dudley in some of the final preparations."

Tickets online cost £10 for adults, £5.50 for children and senior citizens and for family - two adults and two children - costs £24.

A premium viewing area will be open near the hall with a private bar, gourmet food, a lit marquee, large screen and live entertainment.

The gates will open at 4.30pm while the bonfire will be lit at 7.45pm and at 8.30pm there will be a 25-minute fireworks display.
