The Mayor of Dudley Cllr Dave Tyler leads the way on a charity motorcycle ride from Himley hall to raise money for his chosen charity , MIND..

Around 200 motorcycles were at the first ever Mind Ride event to raise funds for mental health charity Dudley Mind.

The total amount raised is yet to be added up but it is thought to be in the region of £2,000.

Taking place on Sunday, the bikes – featuring clubs from as far as Telford – rode out from Himley Hall at 10am before taking on a 19.7-mile ride circling the borough.

The ride was organised by Dudley mayor, Councillor Dave Tyler as well as campaigner Damian Corfield – who say mental health is a big issue in the area.

"We had just just under 200 come and join us," said Mr Corfield. "We were overjoyed with how it went and really taken back – especially considering it's the first event. The people who supported us were great and we've managed to raise about £2,000, which is going to Dudley Mind.

"We've even had motorcycle clubs from Telford, Birmingham and Perry Barr come and join – there was a big turnout."

It took about six months to organise the event in total and organisers hope to turn it into an annual fixture.

He added: "The plan is to do the event annually. With the success of this year, we'll be working on the next ride out soon.

"I came up with the idea about six or so months ago. Being a seasoned biker and with Dave being a former biker with the police it seemed like a fitting thing to do.

"We circled the outskirts of the borough for 19.7 miles, which took us around an hour to do. Everyone was really impressed with the event and really encouraged."

Dudley Mind, is part of the Mind charity group, and aims to improve and promote recovery and wellbeing for people in the Dudley borough affected by poor mental health.
