Monsters set to invade ales fair

Organisers of Dudley's annual winter ales fair are hoping for an invasion of Frankenstein's monsters.

The Dudley and South Staffordshire branch of the Campaign for Real Ale has chosen Dudley-born horror film director James Whale, who made the original Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein movies, to feature on festival glasses to mark the 60th anniversary of his death.

The monster appears on posters publicising the winter ales event in Dudley Town Hall from November 23 to 25.

The final day will feature a prize for the best fancy dress and the branch is hoping members and visitors will turn up in horror masks and outfits to join in the fun.

Branch publicity officer Stan Stephens said: "We hope everyone will have a 'Whale' of a time this year."

The branch now needs to find volunteers from its own ranks, neighbouring branches and festivalgoers to help with manning the bar, setting up on November 20 and taking down on November 26.

Anyone who wishes to get involved can do so through the website at http://www.dudleycamra.org.uk/dwaf2017.html or e-mail mandab59@yahoo.com

This year's winter ales fair will feature more than 70 beers from all over the country.
