Black Country Festival: All the fun of the fair comes to Wall Heath

Preparations are well under way for this year's Wall Heath Fayre being held in the village, near Kingswinford, this Sunday.

It is the fourth running of the fair which was established by members of community group, Wall Heath Village People.

The group was started after villagers felt they wanted to foster more community spirit and help smarten up Wall Heath.

The fair now marks one of the highlights of the year in Wall Heath - and last year linked with the Black Country Festival to strengthen community ties.

The festival is the annual celebration bringing together a month long series of events to mark Black Country Day, held on July 14.

Michelle Preston, the landlady of the Horse and Jockey pub, in the village, is one of the organisers of the fair.

The 47-year-old mother-of-three said: "It is all about bring all generations of the community together.

"Everyone in the village looks out for one another and it is a really great community.

"The village is on the outskirts of the Black Country but we think it is nice to celebrate it."

Events will be held around the village high street on the car parks of the Horse and Jockey and Prince Albert pubs.

The fair runs from 12pm to 6pm featuring live music, a barbecue, fun fair attractions, stalls and games.

Money raised from the community event gets put back into the village funds to help towards flower displays and other activities.

Black Country Festival committee chairman Steve Edwards said: "It is great to have events like the fair in Wall Heath because that's what we want for the festival.

"People celebrating and being proud of their own area."
