The green-fingered bunch from Bearwood Road Allotments in Smethwick will be on screen before shows watched by millions such as EastEnders, Doctor Who and Countryfile.

They will appear in short shots called idents, which feature on BBC1 before programmes start.

The channel has recently refreshed its idents to give community and sports groups across the UK their 15 minutes of fame.

The group of five adults and four children are shown tending a plot on the Smethwick allotment in a series of clips filmed by a BBC crew and renowned photographer Martin Parr last month.

Chair of the allotments association Mick Brooke said: "It was great that Bearwood Allotments were chosen by the BBC to be part of their 'one-ness' campaign and fascinating to see behind the scenes of filming.

"The film crew seemed to genuinely love our green and productive oasis in Smethwick.

Sandwell Council’s cabinet member for leisure Councillor Richard Marshall said: “It’s fantastic to see Smethwick on national television. The allotments are really well looked after and they have a fabulous community feel.”

Bearwood Road allotments has four half plots and five full plots available. Allotment plots are also available at Londonderry and Wood Green allotments.
