Glass museum in bid to raise £20k
A fundraising push has started to ensure the opening of a new Black Country glass museum remains on track.
Trustees behind the White House Cone – Museum of Glass project in Wordsley need to raise £20,000 in eight weeks.
They have urged supporters to back the scheme so progress can continue.
The museum has been built with £2.1 million funding from the European Development Fund and a £900,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The latest cash injection is needed for an internal fit-out of the museum – or the project will fall behind schedule.
Trustee Graham Fisher said: "We are always on the lookout for money and this is a target we've got to get for our funding – we're grateful for any support.
"It's all part of the mix we've got to get in order to reach our next stage of funding.
"We need this to be able to move forward and we've now only got eight weeks to do it.
"People can donate using the crowd-funding website that we've set up.
"The funding we had for the building work has been used and it looks fabulous, it's a wonderful place.
"But at the moment it isn't a museum – the second phase now is for the fit out of the place to turn it into a museum to host the collections."
Not getting the required cash by the deadline will mean the project is 'seriously impeded', according to Mr Fisher – but the trustees remain confident of hitting their target.
The centre, supported by the British Glass Foundation, replaces Broadfield House glass museum and celebrates the area’s glass industry heritage.
The project has been driven by members of the British Glass Foundation (BGF) formed after the news in 2009 that Broadfield House was earmarked for closure.
Mr Fisher added: "If we didn't get the funding it would seriously impede our progress – but it wouldn't be the end of it.
"We're determined to get this project completed. Not getting the money raised in time would be a serious blow but we are confident we will get there."
