Bostin' Gin launches in Black Country
A Black Country-themed gin has been created by a shop owner and a distillery in a bid to promote the area and back local businesses.
Steve Edwards, owner of The Black Country Hub in Dudley, teamed up with Dr Eamers to launch the Bostin' Gin.
The product, sold with the Propa Black Country brand, will be sold in the shop in the Merry Hill Shopping Centre.
And there's hopes for it to be sold at the Dr Eamers' gin bar at the Waterfront – before they aim to expand to pubs in the area.
Mr Edwards, who also founded of the Black Country Festival, said: "What I try to do with my business is to promote businesses which are local in the shop.
"We sell local ales, scratchings, teddy grays, and we work with the local distilleries to offer Black Country items.
"And instead of me setting up a brewery or distillery, we'll be getting the gin made with local businesses – it promotes them and it promotes us."
Currently 95 per cent of the products sold at The Black Country Hub are supplied or made in the Black Country – with the owner hoping to increase this to 100 per cent.
But how does it taste? "I've had it, it's really nice but my Mrs absolutely loves it," the 36-year-old, from Brierley Hill, said.
"It gives me a hangover but my Mrs absolutely loves it. It's 40 per cent [volume] so it's a strong one.
"People are proud of the Black Country and it promotes the area, so I would say people are going to like it.
"Hopefully it will be at Dr Eamers' gin bar at the Waterfront and as the weeks go on, we will try and get it into other places like local pubs."
The gin will be sold in the shop from today.
