TV host Matt Tebbutt has taste for Nelson’s gin
A Staffordshire gin distillery has received high-profile special praise from one of the country’s leading chefs and television presenters – in front of millions of viewers.
Nelson’s Distillery in Uttoxeter was singled out by Saturday Kitchen presenter Matt Tebbutt in the latest episode broadcast on BBC1 at the weekend.
Matt described Nelson’s Timur Gin as his “new favourite” in a special feature to mark World Gin Day.
The product features the Timur pepper, part of the Sichuan family from the mountains of Nepal and which has grapefruit overtones and creates a tingly feeling in the mouth.
Matt, who also presents Food Unwrapped, said on Saturday’s Morning Kitchen: “My new favourite gin I tried the other day is the Nelson’s Timur made with a Sichuan pepper – it’s in your face.”
Nelson’s founder, master distiller and former chef, Neil Harrison, said: “It’s a fantastic coup for us to receive such a high accolade from somebody so respected in the industry as Matt Tebbutt on live television.
“There was a real buzz of excitement amongst the whole Nelson’s team when we heard what Matt had said.
“Distilling started as a hobby for me, but my love for gin and experience as a chef has enabled me to produce combinations that really stand out in an ever-competitive market.
“We are extremely proud of our Timur Gin and receive a lot of positive reviews, so this is another feather in our cap.
“At Nelson’s, we have always been confident that the quality, purity and taste of our gins are second-to-none, so it is great to hear someone of Matt’s stature agrees.”
The Nelson’s Timur is available in a 70cl bottle or as part of three different gift box packages.
The significant praise comes during a hectic year for the thriving business.
It has responded to the coronavirus crisis by creating a new NHS gin with a section of the proceeds being donated to NHS charities across the UK. More than £25,000 has been raised already.
In addition, Nelson’s will be opening three new gin schools at hotels in Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester in August – subject to Covid-19 restrictions _ to supplement the one already open at its HQ in Uttoxeter.
