Saffron Pink's, Sedgley
Curries with a twist at reasonable prices impress Victoria Nash.
What kind of restaurant is it?
Well, you could say that Saffron Pink's is your traditional curry house, having cemented its status as the go-to place for curry lovers for miles around.
But everything from the quality of the food, the size of the menu, the warm atmosphere complimented by mood lighting and the bright pink entrance that stands out like a beacon on Sedgley's Bull Ring tells you that this curry house ain't your average.
What's so different about this place?
You don't run a restaurant for more than a decade without learning a few tricks of the trade and ways of standing out.
So – plasma TVs playing Bollywood music videos on loop, modern crisp white decor with LED lighting and a five-star hygiene rating aside – the bosses of this curry house have not forgotten the thing that's most important to its diners – and that's the grub.
From the traditional baltis, massalas, dhansaks and tandooris, owner Sayed Miah's team of chefs have created a packed menu that leaves your mind boggling with choice.
If you fancy something different from the norm then why not try one of the many unique creations on offer, or even curry with an Italian twist that has been complimented with pasta?
And if you still cannot decide, then don't fret, as you can mix and match some of the dishes on offer.
The venue itself is small and, while there's no doubt it easily has the custom base and loyal following to serve three times the amount it currently has the capacity to, there's something quite charming about its warm and intimate feel. Saffron Pink's has established a loyal following, despite the people of Sedgley being somewhat spoiled for choice, and it is not hard to see why.
So the food's spot on, but I like my food served up with a smile. Is it?
Well you're in luck then. Nothing's too much trouble for Sayed and his loyal band of merry waiters. From the moment you're greeted at the door, the staff make you feel like they've welcomed you for a night of dining in their own home.
What if I fancy a curry in a hurry?
As much as the team are more than happy to indulge your culinary whims for as long as you wish, once ordered the food is delivered promptly and piping hot. And of course for those that can't be fussed with the hassle of leaving their home comforts behind there's always the takeaway option – one that has been boosted by the restaurant's new website providing the full menu and prices at the click of a button.
Sounds good, bet it's on the expensive side though?
Not at all. Saffron Pink's is as suitable for a quick midweek impulse meal as it is a Saturday night curry blow-out.
All starters are less than £5 and mains vary from the reasonable (some being as little as £5.20) to the reasuringly more expensive options, such as monkfish, salmon and king prawn specialities costing up to £10.95, with everything else in between.
So, do you think you would go back?
Without a doubt. The food is delicious, the staff can't do enough and it doesn't break the bank.
In fact, among the comments left by diners online about the restaurant is one describing their experience as "pure lush". It's hard to disagree.
