Rakhi Ghosh, aged 25, from Birmingham, returned to the easel as a way to relax after busy and challenging shifts in A&E during the coronavirus crisis.

She said: "The rapport between staff and the general feeling in the hospital has been of positivity. We're in it together, so we're all trying to keep our spirits up.

"But there’s a lot of emotional moments too – speaking to patients who’ve had to leave their family at the door has been quite upsetting. It's been a really strange time to be working as a doctor, but I've learned an incredible amount that I wouldn't have otherwise.

More Covid-19 coverage:

"Painting takes your mind off anything that's worrying you, I really believe art's something that you can throw yourself into completely."

Often inspired by the natural world and full of warm, uplifting colours, Rakhi posts her Gift of Time Art on Instagram and sells prints and originals for donations on JustGiving.

She has now raised more than £600 for ShelterBox, which has been supporting families in Syria, the Philippines and beyond throughout the global coronavirus crisis.

Robyn Cummins, fundraising and communications director at ShelterBox, says: "We’re so proud to have Rakhi as one of the ShelterBox family.

"Not only is she doing incredible work on the frontline of the coronavirus crisis, she’s gifting her precious free time to raise money for families worldwide who have nowhere to shelter after disaster."
