Jon Conway and Steve Sheen's short film The Funniest Man in the World has been nominated for an award at this year's Birmingham Film Festival.

The nomination for the film, which stars Barry Chuckle in one of his last works, follows wins at Los Angeles, Toronto, St. Tropez, Moscow and London festivals.

The film also features Paul Chuckle, Jordan Conway, and David Essex who is set to appear in Elf when it comes to the city's Genting Arena, soon to be renamed Resorts World Arena.

Telling the tale of ageing comedian Joe Grimaldi, the film followed the star as he builds up towards an ill-advised final comeback, while his son struggles with living in his father's shadow.

Birmingham Film Festival will take place from November 20 to 25, showcasing a variety of features, shorts, documentaries, music videos and screenplays.

The Funniest Man in the World will be screened at the festival on November 23 at 6pm.

Following the event, Elf - A Christmas Spectacular comes to Birmingham starring the likes of David Essex, Martine McCutcheon, and Tam Ryan.

This new Christmas Spectacular production will feature a book written by Bob Martin and Thomas Meehan, and an original score of great new songs.

The original staging will be enhanced with giant screens, showing both computer graphic backdrops and live action close-ups.

The 5,000 seat arena layout will have a 70-foot wide stage and a 60-foot long thrust stage, with some scenes taking place around and above the audience.

Elf will be produced by WBP Ltd, the team behind last year’s Christmas spectacular Peter Pan, which played at Arena Birmingham and The SSE Arena, Wembley.
