Starring Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Styeve Vuscemi, Julianne Moore, Philip Seymour Hoffman and more; the comedy flick follows Jeff 'The Dude' Lebowski as he seeks restitution for his ruined rug.

The slacker is the victim of mistaken identity when two thugs break into his apartment with the errant belief that they're strong-arming Jeff Lebowski - the Pasadena millionaire.

In the hope of getting a replacement for a rug that they ruin, the Dude pays a visit to his wealthy namesake, and ends up embroiled in a kidnapping and the world of organised crime.

The film first acquired notoriety on the midnight movie circuit, and was the first film to be screened for more than a six-week period.

An annual festival, Lebowski Fest, began in Louisville, Kentucky in 2002, which sees fans from across the globe arrive in replica film costumes to compete in bowling tournaments, trivia, and costume shows. The UK gained its own dedicated date in London in 2009.

In 2014, the film was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress, being deemed ‘culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant’.

The Big Lebowski will be screened at MAC Birmingham on September 22, Cineworld Birmingham Broad Street on September 24, and Cineworld Telford on September 24.
