Disney On Ice: Passport To Adventure, Arena Birmingham - review
Little Elsas and Ariels littered the streets of Birmingham as Disney On Ice arrived at the second city last night.
After wading through the foyer lined with more merchandise than you could ever imagine, with an Olaf ice cup in hand (though, admittedly not in costume), we took our place at Arena Birmingham for an evening of some of our favourite Disney films brought to life on the ice rink.
Favourite characters such as Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy took the young audience on a journey around the world to a variety of places such as the African planes and the city of London.
The first half was focused on the Lion King and Peter Pan, with Peter looking fantastic as the cast flew above the arena while fighting the evil Captain Hook on his pirate ship.
The second half featured the highlights of this show, however, with The Little Mermaid providing a colourful feast for the eyes with the world under the sea coming to life as sea creatures glided across the ice.
It was then time for the main draw - judging by the amount of costumes worn by fans - Frozen. A film that lends itself perfectly to an ice show, if not just by title alone. Elsa and Anna were brought to life as everyone’s favourite songs from the film were performed, with snow falling from the ceiling in a stunningly fantastic fashion.
Far from being just an experience cashing in on the Disney name, this is an entertaining show highlighting fantastic skating ability alongside some of the best told stories of our time.
I for one, have truly been opened up to the Disney On Ice experience, and will be sure to get my tickets booked for its return next year.
