So You Think You Can Sing?, Nightingale Club, Birmingham - review
The Klub Kids are back in town following their wildly successful comedy queen extravaganza tour, with a brand new musical show that hit Birmingham's Nightingale club last night.
Revellers donned their best attire and practised their high notes ready to take on new show So You Think You Can Sing? A karaoke competition with a £100 prize at stake.
To win the competition contenders had to impress their star judge - RuPaul's Drag Race season 7 runner-up and All Stars 2 contestant Ginger!
The show also included performances from the star herself - showcasing her varied talents that have garnered her thousands of adoring followers across the world.
Ginger took to the quirky stage filled with inflatables and a neon flashing screen, in a glittering silver ball gown.
She paid homage to her infamous impression of Adele that was featured on the reality show - with a lip-sync mash-up of songs featuring the world hello.
From Adele to Lionel Richie and Drake - Ginger powered through the lip-synch with the energy of a lightning storm - and she was equally as captivating.
Ginger is an utterly irresistible performer to watch - whether she is lip-synching, telling a joke or simply smiling at the crowd.
"It's a exciting to be here in Birmingham! And away from America and Trump." Ginger said, to raucous applause.
"I tell you this... If America wanted an orange president we'd have elected Coco Montrese" she laughed, poking fun at a fellow Drag Race contestant.
Ginger developed a rapport with the crowd almost instantly - getting drinks for those celebrating their birthdays and engaging in comical conversations at regular breaks.
Intervals broke Ginger's varied set into parts, and allowed the Klub Kids to bring to life the infamous New York Club Kid scene with pounding music, infectious dancing and an inclusive atmosphere.
It got members of the audience talking to each other and making new friends in the unique, fun and warm environment - creating a community that was ready to party.
Ginger returned to the stage in a neon purple and green dress - and bellowed the first recognisable lines of Frank Sinatra's My Way.
From classic singles to show tunes - Ginger showcased her musical prowess in jaw-dropping fashion, making hitting perfect notes look absolutely effortless.
All of this is before Ginger began to judge people's singing. The thought of performing in a packed club to a trained singer and TV star drag queen may seem incredibly daunting - but Ginger and the Klub Kids turned this into a weird and wonderful competition for all.
The lack of formality regarding the singing competition encouraged people to have a go - with an eager audience boosting their confidence at every turn.
With prizes battled for and won - the party carried on into the night, with Ginger attending a meet and great where fans could converse with her one to one after her performances.
It was a long night of physically exerting performances for the star, and it is a real testament to the dedication Ginger has for her fans that she spent an ample amount of time with each and every person that wanted to meet her - eager to strike up conversations, sign merchandise and pose for photos.
With brilliant performances from both acts and the audience alike - Klub Kids have wowed crowds once again with their glittering and garish new show, So You Think You Can Sing?
