The walking event, organised by Dudley Council, normally takes place in May – but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As Government restrictions ease, the authority will now hold the Dudley Trail, in association with the Lee Shaw Partnership, on Sunday, September 13.

The event will celebrate its 40th anniversary, but will operate on a scaled back format from previous years – with only two walks available, including a six-mile gentle walk and a more challenging 13-mile walk.

Anyone can take part, including children – but they must register online beforehand. All of the routes will be marked and a download of the route is available on the Map My Walk app.

Councillor David Stanley, the Mayor of Dudley, said: "A few months ago, we were unsure whether we would be able to celebrate the Dudley Trail’s 40th birthday so I am delighted we can confirm the event will go ahead and we can maintain the 40 year-long tradition albeit on a smaller scale.

"The trail is a wonderful experience and gives people the opportunity to see some areas of the borough that may not have seen before. This year people can enjoy the wonders of our canals, one of our nature reserves and our many country footpaths."
