Experience a taste of Italy without leaving Staffordshire at staycation resort

A travel company has encouraged people to visit Florence, Bermuda, New York and Egypt – all without leaving the UK.

Love Home Swap is offering trips to places across the country which have the same names as holiday locations across the globe.

And one of these, Florence, is situated in a suburb of Staffordshire – although it doesn't feature Italy's weather, cuisine or culture.

It comes as the firm revealed that two-thirds of people remain unsure, scared, or completely against holidays abroad this year.

And instead they are opting for staycations to destinations across the UK amid fears of coronavirus, prompting the move from the travel firm.

Florence, a part of Stoke-on-Trent, is historically linked with British coal mining but is also known for the Trentham Estate and the World of Wedgwood.

Other places include Melbourne in Derbyshire instead of Australia, Moscow in Ayrshire instead of Russia, New York in Lincolnshire instead of in the USA and Toronto in County Durham instead of in Canada.

Further places include Egypt in Buckinghamshire, rather than the country and Bermuda in Wawrickshire, rather than the overseas territory.

A spokesman for the firm, which runs a holiday accommodation service, said: "It’s well-documented that staycations are experiencing a boom this summer as British holidaymakers can’t or won’t travel abroad.

"However, just because a household might choose to holiday on home soil doesn’t mean they can’t say they’re travelling to the likes of Florence, Bermuda or New York.

"While they might look and feel very different from their international namesakes, the UK destinations with foreign names are nonetheless wonderful spots to holiday in this year. "
