Lichfield Cathedral will be opening for longer during the weekend to give visitors more time to explore the cathedral, the Close and enjoy a socially-distanced picnic on the grounds outside.

The doors will open from 10.30am throughout the weekend and will stay open until 4.30pm, with a break at 12.30pm each day for the Eucharist service.

Additionally, the church will open from 6.30pm to 10pm on Saturday, August 29 for a special Cathedral at Night event, which the Dean of Lichfield Rev. Adrian Dorber said was a unique way to see the cathedral out of door.

He said: "There is a lively hustle and bustle during the day, but the evening provides a special kind of tranquillity when the Cathedral speaks in different ways.

"The aim of the night is to provide space to think about our own lives, to connect with one another and with God.

"We’d like lots of people to come and experience the Cathedral at this unique time."
