Bantock House Museum has posted a video, photographs and text to the web so that people can find out more.

A spokesperson for Wolverhampton Arts and Culture services said: “During lockdown we have shared the history of Bantock with you. We thought that it would be a nice treat to put these all together in a video and have a little look around the building. If you missed it, do not worry. You can read more about the house history on our website.”

Bantock House has a much-loved arts and crafts room. The spokesperson added: “Reflecting the Arts and Crafts movement, and other popular fashions of the period, the interior features carved oak panelling and, in the grand Staircase Hall, six Pre-Raphaelite paintings by Frederick Shields and a cosy inglenook fireplace.

“Bantock House also has fine examples of English porcelain and ceramics including Delftware tiles, Royal Worcester, Bloor Derby and Myatt, exquisite examples of locally made japanned ware, enamels and steel jewellery, as well as a display of children’s toys and dolls.”

During this time of self-isolation, social distancing and home schooling, the council’s Wolverhampton Arts and Culture team have made available a range of ideas for creative activities and ways to stay connected with arts and culture.

By visiting the website visitors can take a virtual tour of the Art Gallery, locating their favourite pieces and even sharing them online using #wolverhamptonartcollection.

Wolverhampton Arts and Culture has over 18,000 items in its collection, which range from objects relating to Black Country history and ancient fossils, to old master paintings and contemporary sculptures.

“We also have the biggest collection of Pop Art outside of London. A vast number of items are available to view online by clicking the Collections tab on our website. It’s a wonderful resource for learning, engagement and creativity.

“Curators have compiled a list of informative books available on Issuu, which relate to artists and artworks in our collections, as well as to our exhibitions.”
