GALLERY: Visitors enjoy the sun as Himley Park reopens
As the sun shone over the weekend, visitors returned to Himley Park for the first time in weeks.
Himley Park reopened on Tuesday, April 21 after the grounds were closed almost a month ago when crowds gathered at the beauty spot, flouting government social distancing guidelines.
This weekend a number of people returned to the park to enjoy the sunshine.
Joggers, dog walkers and families visited the Dudley site, while maintaining social distancing guidance.
Dudley Council reviewed the decision to close Himley Park after Government advice earlier this week stated that parks could open for people to enjoy daily exercise.
Government rules say people should only head outdoors for essential reasons, such as exercise, and they should always follow social distancing restrictions, remaining at least two metres apart from others.
Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council said: "We want all our parks to be open so people have somewhere to go for fresh air and exercise.
"The decision to close Himley was not taken lightly and we hope that visitors will follow the clear government rules around social distancing and remain at least two metres apart from others.
"If people follow the advice, we will all be doing what we can to defend ourselves from this terrible outbreak.
"This decision to open the park again will be kept under review and if people flout the very clear government rules, I will not hesitate to reconsider.
"People need to stay at home, save lives and protect the NHS.”
