Local businesses are under threat

While everyone is being urged to stay indoors, hospitality venues have been forced to close their doors – with no knowing of when they might open.

Jan Denning, director of Destination Wolverhampton and the Black Country, is urging people to remember to book local once the lockdown is over.

She said: "It's really important that when conferences and events are booking again, that we book now for the future. And that we book local.

"That's the biggest positive message. I think it will be a challenge - we have lost a good half of the year. People will be desperate to make social contact again though and have the biggest parties ever. Christmas will be strong.

"We have set up a campaign on social media with the hashtag 'emerge'. We don't know when that will be, but we will emerge soon. And we must plan and prepare."

Destination Wolverhampton and the Black Country, which manages bookings and tourism across the area, is still open and taking calls about event planning if people are struggling to get through to the venue of their choice.

Jan added: "Hospitality - hotels and venues, restaurants aand bars – they are being hit the most really. Across the globe, venues have closed their doors and it's had a massive impact. So it's really important we support locally when we emerge.

"We need to get positive messages out there. It's tough at the moment but we're here to help if anyone needs us."
