There will be a selection of activities that will encourage them to explore the natural world around them.

Activities around the 150-acre woodland and garden site include two free activity trails and a pop-up cinema.

An Animal Trail will take visitors on a trek around the Arboretum’s landscape, challenging them to find some of the animals hidden in memorials. A free trail map, available from the welcome desk, includes stickers of each animal to attach to a Arboretum map to take home.

A limited number of free tickets remain for the Woodland Adventurers Pop-Up Cinema daily showing of Paddington 2 at 10.30am, booking is recommended for this activity.

Two outdoor play areas can also be found at the Arboretum. The Sensory Play Garden uses sensory exploration and discovery to introduce younger visitors to the concept of Remembrance, in addition to providing traditional play.

It features tunnels, climbing globe, banister slides and time circle, and the sympathetically designed area sits naturally within the grounds of the Arboretum, blending into the landscape. The second children's play area in the Children's Wood offers wooden play equipment and picnic benches are located nearby.

Sarah Oakden, head of marketing, said: “There is plenty for families to do at the Arboretum this half term and our activity trails are fantastic way of encouraging young people to embrace the outdoors.

"Stick Man is an easily recognisable character, while the Animal Friends Trail offers a fun way for people to interact with some of our memorials.”
