As the evening crept in at a picturesque Staffordshire estate, revellers gathered lanterns ahead of a festive walk through the old grounds.

It was an annual festive tradition that takes guests through the gardens and estate near Cannock Chase every year.

The lantern parade takes people through the surroundings of Shugborough Hall, near Stafford, on the evening as the light dims.

Combined with the festive time of year, the parade provides a unique experience for guests as they experience the estate after dark.

To enhance the experience, people dressed as characters are present where they tell the story of the estate's history.

The building itself was built in 1695 on the remains of a moated medieval bishop's palace and an early 17th-century house.

However the estate dates back much earlier. Historic records show there was a bishop's palace on the site, belonging to bishops from Lichfield, as early as the 1300s.
