A movie poster treasure trove at Wolverhampton's Light House
Movie buffs looking for posters of their favourite films were in luck on the weekend as Wolverhampton’s only independent cinema laid out scores of prints to snap up.
From Captain Marvel, Crimes of Grindelwald, and other top Hollywood blockbusters, there was a poster to suit all tastes.
Last year, the movie poster event had queues heading out the door – and this year’s annual poster grab was also successful.
Light House chief executive Kelly Jeffs said: “It wasn’t quite as busy as last year, but the key message is that these posters are available all year round. You don’t have to wait for an event like this one.
“Just go on our website and view the catalogue then give us a call and the volunteer will dig out the the poster.
“We raised £250 from this event, all to go towards saving Light House.
“It was a really great event. Myself, and a volunteer Pat, were there on the day to meet and greet people.
“We had a lot of interested visitors which was really nice.
“People were buying gifts for birthdays, or other occasions so it was quite meaningful.
“They were choosing posters they thought their friends or family would like.”
The film poster even was first held last year in a bid to help bring in a bit more cash.
The independent cinema, based in Chubb Buildings in the city centre, launched an appeal last year to Save Light House after missing out on funding.
In July 2018 bosses said the venue was in danger of closing due to a withdrawal of funding and subsequent cash flow crisis.
Not just a cinema, Light House is also a regular meeting point for weekly groups including pensioners, the LGBT community, students, artists and families.
A wide range of movie posters are available to buy at Light House, which is the Black Country’s only independent cinema.
