All change at Bridgnorth Cliff Railway's tea room
Bridgnorth’s historic cliff railway has announced that the traditional Winding House tea rooms adjoining its top station has been let to a new tenant.
The previous operators of the tea rooms had run the business for five years. The new operator is Gemma Aamir.
The cliff railway’s property agent, Mr John Andrews of Doolittle & Dalley, was instructed to find a new operator who was to retain the concern as a traditional tea rooms serving a large range of tea varieties.
Gemma comes from a family which owns a chain of cafes in the Black Country. The cliff railway will be mentoring Ms. Aamir in the running of the business, but the Winding House will be operated as an entirely separate entity with its own branding and focus on tradition.
Bridgnorth Cliff Railway chairman, Dr Malvern Tipping, said: “We are delighted to welcome Gemma and her team to the Winding House and wish them every success. Regulars will be pleased to learn that the traditions set by the previous tenants, with their focus on tea varieties and traditional homemade cakes, will continue under the new management.
"Indeed, that was a pre-condition when Gemma was chosen from the shortlist drawn up by Doolittle & Dalley. Moreover, Ceylon tea will be continued to be stocked, as I drink it all the time”.
Gemma added: “I am very happy to be the new owner of the Winding House Tea Rooms and to be situated next to the iconic Bridgnorth Cliff Railway.”
She will be supported by a team of staff, including Katherine Guest who had worked for the previous owners.
