More than 60 events were held across the county for the fourth annual Staffordshire Day - and even more are planned for this weekend.

Hundreds of hungry customers attended an oatcake morning at Canalside Farm in Great Haywood yesterday.

Its manager, Geoff Barton, said 25 per cent of the money raised from the oatcakes will go to the Campaign to Protect Rural England.

He said: "It went really well, we've been really busy.

"We've had hundreds of people along easily.

"I think it's a fantastic day, the opportunity to buy locally is something we champion all the time."

At Burntwood library, regulars were busy at the golden embroidery workshop to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the discovery of the Staffordshire Hoard.

Kerry Hutchings, who ran the group, said: "It went really well, everybody has enjoyed it and some of the ladies have decided to meet up again in a couple of weeks.

"Staffordshire Day is a brilliant idea, it brings communities together and makes us proud of where we live and think about the fantastic things we have on offer in Staffordshire.

Meanwhile, at the Guildhall Gallery in Stafford, staff were busy putting finishing touches to their Made in Staffordshire exhibition to celebrate the best of local artists.

Philip Atkins, Leader at Staffordshire County Council said: “This is our forth Staffordshire Day and every year it gets better and better.

“It’s great to see so many people and organisations joining in the celebrations and showing pride in where they live. It’s also brilliant to see #staffordshireday trending on Twitter for most of the day.

“We all know how much Staffordshire has to offer but this is our chance to let the rest of the country and the world know about what a great place it is to live and visit. And, the fun doesn’t end today, there’s still plenty happening over the week and bank holiday weekend too, so make sure you get the chance to join in the celebrations.”

In 2018, over 60,000 people attended Staffordshire Day events, generating over £1m for the county economy, while many also supported on social media, with more than 5,700 tweets including the #StaffordshireDay hashtag.
