Matt spent the day at Dudley Zoo getting into character for his upcoming performance at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre between May 7 and 11.

And the singer said he is looking forward to the week, when he will be playing lead character Alex the Lion.

But it was the penguins who kept him busy at the zoo as he helped to feed them with other cast members who also took along some of the show’s puppets to meet the real thing too.

Matt said: “I trained in musical theatre before I auditioned for the X Factor. It is something I always wanted to do so it’s great that I have already ticked that box.

“We had a lot of fun at the zoo and I’m looking forward to coming to Wolverhampton with the show.”

Matt, who won the ITV music competition in 2016, spent the day at the zoo on Friday with fellow cast members Shane McDaid playing Maurice, Victoria Boden playing Rico the Lemur, and off-stage swings Darren John and Brandon Gale.

Dudley Zoo’s Andrea Hales added: “It was our pleasure to welcome Matt Terry and the cast from Madagascar UK Tour to the zoo for a special meet and greet with our colony of Humboldt penguins.

"Our birds were particularly fascinated to come face-to-face with their fabulous penguin puppets.”

The production features all of the characters from the smash-hit musical as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar.
