Chillington Hall to host dragon boat race
Rowers will be making a splash as they battle it out on the water during a charity dragon boat racing day.
Chillington Hall, in Codsall Wood, Wolverhampton, will be hosting the Lord Mayor's Dragon Boat Race Day on the lake on July 29.
It is being held in aid of the Lord Mayor of London's Annual Appeal and organisers say it's ideal for people looking for a team building event, a new fitness challenge or a fun day out with the family.
Organisers are offering companies, groups, friends and families the chance to take on city livery companies, corporate and charity teams in the hope of winning the Lord Mayor's Cup.
On dry land there will be a host of entertainment in the festival village, with dancing lions and dragons, Chinese dancers and drummers, arts, crafts and music, a wine emporium, local beer tent, tours of Chillington Hall, a kidszone, a display of classic cars and much more.
The event will run from 11am until 4pm.
Spectator passes, providing car parking, festival village, classic cars, a hall tour and a lakeside view of the racing, cost £15. Discounts are available for couples and families, passes must be purchased in advance.
Teams of 13 to 17 people, including rowers and one drummer, aged 16 or over should register in advance for the event by July 27.
It costs £1,000 per boat and each rower is encouraged to raise £250 in sponsorship for the appeal.
Teams will be provided with the use of a dragon boat, qualified helm, racing equipment and pre-race training, exclusive event t-shirt, hot lunch, access to the competitors enclosure and festival village and souvenir event programme.
A team prize will be awarded to the crew raising the most funds for the appeal.
