The event, being held this Sunday, was originally meant to take place in March but organisers, Freedom Leisure, were forced to cancel it until a later date because of the treacherous conditions caused by the Beast from the East.

Freedom Leisure events and marketing manager, Liz Hulse, said: “Both these running events are much loved by the local community and are hugely popular so having to postpone them at the last minute was really difficult, but we had to act on advice given to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment.

"Trust me when I say it was not an easy task but luckily our many contractors were able to come together and find a new date, and while we acknowledge that this date is not ideal for everyone there really were no other options.

"We thank everyone for being so understanding about it and for continuing to support us with around 3500 people still registered to run the event is still a winner."

The 13.1 mile route starts at the town centre heading out on Newport Road and along the Isabel Trail to Victoria Park before returning to Market Square and the Fun Run will also be going ahead with 900 joggers dressed as superheroes.
