Wicked, which comes to the theatre in April, tells the untold story of the Witches of Oz. With nearly all tickets already snapped up, an extra showing has been added on April 11 at 2pm.

Chief executive and artistic director of Birmingham Hippodrome Fiona Allan said: “The audience response to Wicked in Birmingham has been phenomenal and a testament to the show’s reputation with audiences both here in the UK and around the world.

"I feel proud to be able to showcase such a spectacular production at Birmingham Hippodrome, which promises to be a highlight of our Spring 2018 season.

To have sold over 90 per cent of all tickets six weeks ahead of opening is particularly rewarding for us as a venue and it’s incredibly satisfying to see that there is so much affection for the show from local audiences, both new and returning."

Tickets went on sale for the show back in March last year, but organisers have said it's 'very unusual' for them to nearly be completely sold out with still two months before the performance opens.

The award-winning performance features Amy Ross as Elphaba and Helen Woolf as Glinda, with Aaron Sidwell - best known as ‘Steven Beale’ in EastEnders - as Fiyero and Steven Pinder as The Wizard and Doctor Dillamond.

The show will play for four weeks from April 4 to 29. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Birmingham Hippodrome box office, online at birminghamhippodrome.com or by phone on 0844 338 5000.
