Staffordshire County Show: Day one - in pictures
Thousands of visitors will flock to the Staffordshire County Show tomorrow – after the first day today saw the showground basked in glorious sunshine.
Now in its 217th year, the two-day agricultural show drew crowds from across the county and beyond, as more than 65,000 were expected through the gates.
Families and visitors enjoyed a whole range of shows and events including horse and dog shows and even giant tortoises.
Organisers said extra security – including armed police officers – had been deployed following the Manchester Arena attack.
The show is organised by the Staffordshire and Birmingham Agricultural Society.
Among the visitors were Carol Downward, who travelled from Wrexham to enter her dog into the dog show, said: "I'm showing my dog here today. She's a bitch and 14 months old.
"I usually come to the County Show every year, mainly to show dogs, but I've been before when we've had horses show jumping.
"It's a great show, especially when the weather is great like this. I've had a bit of a wonder and looked at everything but once I've entered I can have a good look round at everything. There's so much to have a look at and it isn't too far from me which is great."
Tomorrow's programme of events included a vintage machinery parade, a ferret roadshow, donkey rides and fishing competitions.
There was also an animal experience marquee while hounds and beagles and show jumping were on the cards in the Main Ring.
John Hooley and Evelyn Hooley, from Fulford, are members of the Staffordshire and Birmingham Agricultural Society and help out with the show.
This year they have taken a year off from helping run the event to enjoy it themselves as visitors.
