Sedgley animal sanctuary launches fundraising appeal ahead of winter
A wildlife sanctuary has launched a fundraising campaign to help feed and look after its animals over the winter period.
Brockswood Animal Sanctuary, located in Sedgley, launched the campaign as it was forced to close due to the second lockdown.
The coronavirus pandemic has severely impacted on the sanctuary's finances this year.
Neil Swann, who owns the sanctuary, said generous donations from the public has allowed it to stay a float.
Brockswood has set a £5,000 fundraising goal, which will pay to care for and feed its resident animals, which include pigs, sheep, goats, ponies, birds and other animals.
He said: "That money will cover us through to Easter. It will cost about £1,000 a month to feed the animals."
Speaking on the sanctuary's fundraising page, staff members Claire Thompson said: "Sadly, due to the second national lockdown, we have been forced to close again and [we will] unlikely be able to hold our usual Christmas events, despite the financial problems this will cause us.
"Winter is a particularly tough time for us financially; the grass stops growing, the paddocks become muddy, and the animals need a lot of extra care and attention.
"Every little bit of extra income over the winter period can make a big difference to the animals here at Brockswood.
"Our elderly animals suffer the most from the cold, so they need a lot of special treatment.
"Every single donation no matter the size will be a huge help to us.
"Keeping our rescued animals safe, warm, well fed, as well as veterinary treatment comes at a considerable cost."
