A film will premier later this week based on the life of Wolverhampton-born author Caitlin Moran.

The movie, How to Build a Girl, is screening on Amazon Video from Friday.

The script was written by Moran and is a semi-autobiographical story based on her life.

The film's plot is about a working-class teenager, from Wolverhampton, who enters into the world of music journalism during the 1990s.

There, she has to learn the ropes of the industry while balancing this with trying to be a good person.

It is directed Coky Giedroyc in what will be her first film since 1999's Women Talking Dirty. She has also worked in TV directing episodes of hit shows such as Silent Witness, The Virgin Queen, Sherlock and Penny Dreadful. She is the older sister of TV presenter Mel Giedroyc.

Announcing the news on her Twitter profile, Ms Moran said: "How To Build A Girl premieres on Amazon Video on Friday! Get your film-watching bubble together and pretend you're in a "cinema", whatever they were."

The main character is called Johanna Morrigan and is played by Beanie Feldstein, who has starred in Lady Bird and Booksmart and is the sister of Hollywood star Jonah Hill and the late Maroon 5 manager Jordan Feldstein who died aged 40 in 2017 from a blood clot.

She spent time working at Shop In The Square in Wolverhampton during filming to perfect the Black Country accent.
