Birmingham's Robyn Gordon releases new single
Birmingham singer-songwriter Robyn Gordon is back with her new single, Sinner.
The 22-year-old artist saw the track come out at the end of last month, which is available to hear via her Spotify page now.
A spokesperson said of the musician: "Her thought-provoking lyrics and soulful delivery come with the assured self-belief and deep emotional intelligence of someone to whom it never even occurred to listen to the Top 40 for inspiration.
"Born into musical stock, her relatives’ musical CVs include world famous Welsh rock bands, European classical orchestras and Australian musical acts."
Robyn held a scholarship with the Birmingham Music Service since the age of 11, performed at BBC Proms and got a place at Brit School-funded Birmingham Orminston, only to fall out of favour with a system that "churned out little pop stars, and I just didn’t vibe with that".
She added: "After plenty of disagreements with senior management about their approach to young musicians, I got kicked out.”
Years spent in and out of formal music education encouraged her to discover her own quirks. Fiercely political and armed with a mix tape of Lauryn Hill, Bob Marley, Kelis, Amy Winehouse, Destiny’s Child and India Arie, she taught herself to play the guitar and finally brought her bedroom music to life.
The spokesperson added: "Emotive and fiery, Robyn sings out her own personal passions on her own personal journey."
She launched the single with a special party hosted by Wolverhampton-based The Future Sound Project at Birmingham's The Victoria alongside Death By Stampede, Oliver Beardmore, Edward Woolams, Claire Atherton and Emily Cribb.
