Held in partnership with the Birmingham-based online music channel RawSound.tv - who previously featured in the Star's Unsigned column - it gives local musicians a chance to perform in store and sell their merchandise in the shop to those watching on.

RawSound.tv are also allowed to take over the shop's PA system for the day and play tracks by artists who have featured on their shows since they started in the summer of 2017.

On the bill at this month's edition of the series were Penkridge's The Verse - themselves a former Unsigned column star. And it was a double celebration for them as drummer Jack Taplin was also enjoying his birthday.

The band tweeted afterwards: "We played @hmvMerryHill at @intuMerryHill with @candidcov at the weekend. We had a great time thanks to @RawSoundTV and everyone that came along!"

The Verse have a large online following with more than 8,000 followers on Twitter and nearly 1,900 followers on Facebook. So it was no surprise that fans travelled from as far as Glasgow, Hull and even France and Belgium to see them perform and meet the four-piece.

One of their biggest fans, called @Stifffffy on Twitter, was one of those to travel from Glasgow and bought 10 copies of their latest release for the band to sign for her.

Also on the bill was Coventry band Candid, who tweeted: "Yesterday was a special one. Huge thank you to @RawSoundTV for their continuous efforts in supporting unsigned music and providing amazing opportunities and the lovely people of @hmvMerryHill for giving us the opportunity to stock our CD’s and their hospitality throughout the day."

HMV Merry Hill also reflected on another job well done by praising their partners. They tweeted: "@RawSoundTV have been key bringing the current local music scene closer to our customers @hmvMerryHill this summer! A passionate team of volunteers doing an awesome job for free."

As usual, when the RawSound.tv crew have finished editing the day's footage, the show will be posted for free on their website. To keep up to date with the latest live music showcase announcements, follow @RawSoundTV and @hmvMerryHill on Twitter.
