The broadcaster has been a favourite of Midlands listeners for almost two decades but his time has come to an end following a decision to introduce a national breakfast show on the station.

The new Heart breakfast show will be presented by Jamie Theakston and Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden.

Listeners will still hear James' familiar voice on Heart as he is moving to the station's drive time slot.

The DJ was inundated with messages of support from hundreds of loyal listeners during his final show on Friday.

On the eve of the last show, he posted on Twitter: "Feeling all the emotions tonight.. but mainly gratitude. Getting up at 4.30am ain’t so bad if you get to have fun with your friends!"

The schedule change came after Global decided it would run national breakfast shows on its Heart, Capital and Smooth stations.
