Comic Jonny Cole to launch new Black Country radio show
Comedy star Jonny Cole is ready to "take on the big boys” by launching a new breakfast show on Black Country Radio.
The Black Country comedian/singer believes he has found his true home on the airwaves at the station after working previously on BBC WM and Free Radio.
"I really enjoy doing radio and although it's not my main gig, it's bags of fun,” said Jonny.
“I've done some bits for BBCWM but was told that they thought I was "a little too edgy" for the BBC.
"So I had a go at getting on at Free Radio and started writing content for them but I was dubbed 'a little to local' by them to get anywhere near a microphone.
“So I decided to come home to the station that showed faith in me in the first place and hope to repay them by stealing as many listeners from the big boys as I can... if you can't join em, beat em."
He started the new show from the station's studios at The Waterfront, in Brierley Hill, today.
Keith Horsefall, chair of Waterfront Media CIC, said: “I’m really delighted to welcome Jonny Cole onto Black Country Radio.
"His unique style of humour presentation will brilliantly lighten up the mornings of all our listeners.
“Having Jonny Cole back on BCR reinforces that sense of true local identity.”
Jonny’s show airs from Monday to Thursday and is sponsored by Kingswinford-based firm JJX Logistics, whose boss John Donovan said: “We have booked Jonny to do stand up on many occasions for our events and have never been disappointed.
“As a company, we are proud to be associated with the Black Country and hope the station will help us raise awareness for the many local charities that we support too.”
