Powerful drama to be staged at Stourbridge Town Hall
The story of a talented teenager whose life is blighted by domestic abuse until she is rescued from her traumatic existence is being brought to the stage.
Her experience is featured in a powerful drama, written and performed by husband and wife team Lynn and Dave Morris, and will be staged at Stourbridge Town Hall on April 27.
Based on a true story, Rock and A Hard Place contains true life evidence shared by other women and explores the complex nature of domestic abuse, ranging from coercion in its many forms to women’s deaths at the hands of abusive partners.
It also reveals the impact of funding cuts on the refuge system and on support available for women like the teenager, named Kayleigh.
Stourbridge-based Lynn and Dave are the brains behind Journeymen Theatre, a small-scale touring company which specialises in solo and two-hander productions and is a Human Right Theatre.
“We’re prepared to perform in any space and are fully equipped with our own sound and touring lighting rig,” said Lynn. “We never worry about audience numbers. We’ll perform equally happily for 15 people in a room or 500 in a purpose-built space.
“Our work is very direct work. Rock and a Hard Place might be seen as an intimidating and disturbing experience. That is necessary to get its important message across but the audience can be sure they won’t go away scared witless.”
The production received widespread acclaim when it was performed in three venues across Gloucestershire. The Stourbridge performance is on April 27 at 7.30 pm at the Wollaston Studio,Stourbridge Town Hall.
Tickets cost £5 and include a free glass of wine and a soft drink. They are now on sale from Stourbridge Theatre Company website and the French Deli, Coventry St, Stourbridge.
