Visitors can take a ride on trains which pass through haunted stations on the way to Arley and expect to be scared from both inside and outside the carriages.

The Halloween service is due to be held from Kidderminster Station tonight and tomorrow.

About 800 passengers will jump on board the train each of the sold-out days.

Tony Bending, one of the directors at Severn Valley Railway and volunteer, said most of the children - and parents too - join in with the fun and dress up.

He said: "It's an extremely popular event and has sold out.

"People turn up at Kidderminster, youngsters get their faces painted and then board the train and go through haunted stations at Bewdley and Arley before coming back to Kidderminster.

"Amazingly when the children arrive at Kidderminster they're dressed up, and a lot of adults, and it really looks a treat.

"All the youngsters get a spooky goody bag, it's an event which has proved to be extremely popular and is clearly one that will continue for a while because it's so popular.

"About 800 people attend the event each day and between 50 and 100 volunteers and workers are needed."

Mr Bending said the next big event at the Severn Valley Railway will be the Santa by Steam Train events which see about 30,000 visitors on board the trains over December, along with hundreds of volunteers.

"This takes a lot of operating and hundreds of volunteers to make sure it goes smoothly," Mr Bending added.
