Britney Spears, Birmingham's Genting Arena - Review
Oops! She did it again - pop icon Britney Spears brought her multi-award winning tour A Piece Of Me straight from the Vegas stage to Birmingham's Genting Arena last night.
The glittering show has been witnessed by some of Hollywood's biggest names, including Beyoncé, Jay Z, Lady Gaga, Kirsten Dunst and Calvin Harris, and fans in Brum got to experience exactly why.
As the stage lights dimmed and smoke began to billow onto the stage, dancers flooded the multi-tiered set to demonstrate their perfectly timed choreography and dazzling costumes.
All eyes strayed from them as Britney appeared centre stage, in a glittering bodysuit that left little to the imagination.
From this moment on the 36-year-old music star executed hit after hit with perfect harmonious vocals, high-energy dance moves and an effortless charisma that had the entire audience hanging from her every move.
From the opening lines of Work B**** through to Womanizer, ...Baby, One More Time, and Oops!...I Did It Again; fans were treated to a range of songs from Britney's iconic back catalogue that had the whole crowd moving their feet and singing from the top of their lungs.
Despite the high production value and precision of the show - including moving set pieces that Britney danced along, a catwalk across the venue, and multiple quick costume changes - the star still made time to interact with her adoring fans.
From waving into the crowd, to dragging one lucky fan on stage to dance with her during Freak Show, Britney added a personal touch to the glistening production.
Her rapport with the dancers on stage also made the precise routines seem effortless and intimate at all times, with each interaction sparking with electricity.
Britney has been in the music business for more than 20 years, but last night she seemed as sprightly and energetic as ever as she mastered complicated choreography throughout the hour and a half production without ever losing steam.
Her vocals never faltered despite her high-octane dancing, and singles such as Toxic, I'm A Slave For You, If U Seek Amy and the anthemic Stronger sounded simply sublime, and appeared even more jaw-dropping accompanied by the slick dance routines.
Ending on smash hit single Till the World Ends, confetti cannons exploded rainbow paper over the crowd as the entire ensemble took a final bow, with Britney taking centre stage one last time.
She's stronger than yesterday, and pop icon Britney certainly showed Birmingham that she's still the queen of pop with a powerful, high-energy, entertaining show.
I can only hope that I'll get to experience a piece of Britney Spears once more.
