Thoroughly Modern Millie tour cancelled three weeks before appearing at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre
The UK tour of Thoroughly Modern Millie has been cancelled - just three weeks before it was due to appear at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre.
Staff at the Grand announced earlier today they were 'extremely sorry' to have to reveal the bad news - the show was due to arrive at the theatre on June 26 and be performed for five days.
The cancellation is down to the company producing the show experiencing financial difficulties. The show is produced by David King for Modern Millie Ltd.
Award-winning musical Thoroughly Modern Millie tells the story of a small-town girl, Millie Dillmount, who comes to New York City to marry for money instead of love. It starred former Emmerdale and Coronation Street actress Hayley Tamaddon, who in a past interview described it as a 'brilliant, feel-good show'.
In a statement the company said: "We would like to thank the brilliant cast of the show, who sang and danced their hearts out to bring Thoroughly Modern Millie to audiences all over the country.
"Sadly, and regretfully, the show is now cancelled. We extremely sorry for the inconvenience and disappointment this cancellation will cause everyone who was planning on seeing the show."
Wolverhampton Grand Theatre will contact customers as soon as possible to arrange refunds.
