The show - that takes place on January 29 at Birmingham's Town Hall - will see the musicians play a series of compositions from the likes of Johann Sebastian Bach, Astor Piazzolla and more.

Salzburg-born Christoph Sietzen made his performing debut at the age of 12 at the Salzburg Festival after he started learning percussion at the age of six. He later attended the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz, where his teachers were Bogdan Bacanu, Leonhard Schmidinger and Josef Gumpinger.

Since 2014 he has held a teaching post at Vienna’s University for Music and the Performing Arts. In the same year he was also announced as a prizewinner at the ARD International Music Competition.

In 2017 Christoph received the Pizzicato Supersonic Award for his first solo album Attraction.

He has also been named a rising star of the European Concert Hall Organisation for the 2017/18 season.

The Wave Quartet formed when marimba player Bogdan Bacanu teamed up with Christoph, Emiko Uchiyama and Vladi Petrov to create an adaptation of JS Back's three concertos for two harpsichords.

The ensemble made its debut in 2008 at the Berlin Konzerthaus, performing Bach’s C major concerto in a version for four marimbas. In the same year the quartet release their first CD Aurora Borealis.

Christoph and the Wave Quartet are also set to present a free musical workshop on January 30 that will take place at the Oasis Academy Foundry in Lady Wood. The workshop will enable key stage two pupils to learn about rhythm and the range of musical percussion with an interactive music session. During this session the pupils will play instruments they have created themselves from found objects.

Richard Hawley, Head of Artistic Programming at THSH says: “We are delighted to be able to provide Oasis Foundry Academy the opportunity for their pupils to be inspired by such a high calibre artist as young Austrian percussionist Christoph Sietzen.

"For over twenty years, THSH has worked as a key member of the European Concert Hall Organisation to identify and nurture young artists, many of whom are now among the world’s leading talent. However, it is only recently that we have been in a position to work alongside these young artists to craft learning and participation engagements as part of their visit to this city.

"The workshop that Christoph and his WAVE quartet colleagues will give aims to inspire young minds to create music from found objects, to encourage children to notice and celebrate the rhythms that surround each of us every day, and to nurture the inherent creativity that we believe all young people have.”
