Anthem Voices from Wednesfield are our Am Dram Stars of the Week

Anthem Voices who are based in Wednesfield, is a vocal group whose aim is to provide local people with a place to come and enjoy a good sing and learn new performance skills, as well as receiving private tuition if desired. They cover everything from pop to musical theatre, from swing to Motown, so there really is a style for everyone.

And it’s not just about the singing. The choir presented their annual Christmas Concert in December, intent on raising funds for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.

A member of their choir, 15-year-old Liam Davis spent a lot of time at the Children’s Hospital when he was young, which resulted in this particular charity being very close to many of the member’s hearts.

Earlier this month, some of the group spent the morning at the hospital and handed over a cheque for £1,018.28, which will no doubt be well spent.

Elise Evans, Musical Director at Anthem Voices, says the choir is a huge fan of the work the charity does for the children and young people of the West Midlands. Anthem Voices wanted to give something back to say thank you for helping Liam and his family and a Christmas concert seemed the perfect idea.

Hopefully the money raised at Christmas will go some way towards helping the young people and their families during difficult times during their illnesses and treatment.

Well done Anthem Voices. Great to see amateur performers continuing to support others.

A New Ladies’ Choir – Shenstone Roses

For some time now, local choir leader Margaret Jones has been keen to start a small choir for experienced singers in Halesowen and the surrounding areas. Her plan is to rehearse on an occasional basis, perhaps just once a month at weekends, in order to keep commitment light for the busy ladies.

So, February 3 will see the first meeting of Shenstone Roses, a ladies’ choir who will sing everything from classical to pop, in two or three-part harmony.

The first rehearsal is going to take place at Lifecentral Church, Little Cornbow, Halesowen, B63 3AJ, between 2pm and 5pm. It’s an opportunity for anyone who is interested in performing in a small group to come along and have a free afternoon’s singing, and find out more about the project. Refreshments are included too.

l Anyone interested in coming along should contact Margaret at shenstonemusic@gmail.com or call her on 07761 849332.
