Phil Turner, from Milton Keynes, has joined the team from West Midland Safari Park and is looking forward to introducing new elements to the Discovery Centre and boost conservation work.

The 34 year-old former zoo keeper, who has worked with a variety of animal species, said: “I moved over to education as I wanted to inspire the next generation of zoo keepers.

“I love the zoo community and was impressed with Dudley Zoo’s ethos and I want to help develop our education team in helping get conservation messages out to visitors.”

He will soon be helping provide the daily animal talks, Go Wild! show and presentations across the site as well as teaching the diverse educational programme to visiting school groups.

Phil, who also has a degree in photography, added: “One of the first things I want to try and introduce are new interactive talks. Our team have all the skills already; we just need to do more with them.

“Everyone has been very welcoming and I believe this role will bring about a lot of fantastic opportunities.”

Zoo Director Derek Grove, said: “We believe Phil will be a great addition to the Dudley Zoo team as he works to expand the range of educational experiences and activities we offer.”
