Angelos & Barry, Stafford Gatehouse - review
‘Take what you will from the show but please don’t rob anything’ stated Barry from Watford as his hour long show with Angelos Epithemiou drew to a close.
After their successful podcast ‘The Angelos & Barry Show', the pair have come together to embark on a UK tour to spread the message of the New Power Generation, a sort of spiritual healing group that they insist is ‘not a cult’.
It would seem however that the people of Stafford were not in need of any healing on Friday evening, with the Gatehouse Theatre only half full at best.
That’s not to say that those present didn’t enjoy it, however, with the crowd in hysterics for the entirety of the fantastic show, as Angelos and Barry told their madcap tales as well as singing songs about how they were the best of friends.
Barry from Watford, played by Alex Lowe, opened the show descending from the back of the room and ‘blessing’ the audience with confetti as he made his way on to the prop-filled stage.
The performance was led by Barry as the leader of the New Power Generation, with Angelos - played by Dan Renton Skinner - his latest disciple to join and spread the good message.
Hilarious moments included Angelos donning a huge Chinese Dragon head and dancing for no other purpose than it was an expensive prop to purchase so must be used, as well as a routine involving two paintings of a pair of tits (the birds) and a magpie smoking a cigarette (a fagpie) to highlight the differences between people.
There was also plenty of audience participation, with a teacher from Stoke on Trent being chosen out of the audience to join the pair on stage for a date with Angelos, following his original date ‘going astray’.
This show really was off the wall and crazy, however it was underpinned by some great comedic timing and writing, and I’m sure that if this was a real faith then many would have left the Gatehouse Theatre a part of the New Power Generation.
