Ghostly show The Grey Mist to descend on Tettenhall
A ghost story is to be staged in the perfect setting - a haunted building.
The Grey Mist is the latest offering by an amateur drama group based at the reputedly haunted Towers Theatre in Tettenhall College, Wolverhampton, where the play will be performed.
And to add to the atmosphere, ghost fans can take a tour of the Grade II-listed building beforehand. Tettenhall Towers, with its large cellars, attic rooms and maze of corridors, has allegedly been witness to a number of paranormal sightings over the years.
Ghostly figures have been reported, as well as an 'unwelcoming presence' felt in the attic and various poltergeist activities.
The play itself, although performed in the Towers, is set in a rural village in the 1920s when a doctor arrives to take over the local GP practice. He senses someone in the surgery with him on occasions and sees a woman waiting outside as though frightened to come in. But when he goes to investigate, she has vanished, and the locals talk darkly of a grey mist descending on the village.
The play was written by Tony Stamp, who also directs, after he was approached by members of the company last year.
He said: "We were scratching our heads to find a really creepy ghost story to put on around Halloween but couldn't find one, so the members asked me to write one. It's taken a little while but I've finally got round to doing it."
The Grey Mist, being staged by the Secga Theatre Company, has a cast of 12, including two new members. "As I'm writing and directing, I was able to add a couple of parts for them," said Mr Stamp.
It will be performed over three nights, from October 19 - 21 inclusive, starting at 7.30pm. Limited places are on offer for the Towers tours, which will take between 30-40 minutes. A combined ticket for the tour and show costs £10, or £7 for the production alone.
