Michael Fabricant to donate £25k to charity after TV appearance
Michael Fabricant has revealed he is to donate £25,000 to charity following his appearance on a TV dating show.
The flamboyant Conservative MP for Lichfield is set to appear on Channel 4's Celebrity First Dates around Christmas.
After Theresa May had revealed the news during Prime Minister's Questions, Mr Fabricant said: “I admit it! I am taking part in the show which will be broadcast nearer to Christmas on Channel 4.
"I have done it for charity. I am not receiving anything, and £25,000 will go to Cancer Research UK.
“I have never been on a totally blind date before so it was all rather nail biting!”
In the Commons on Wednesday, Mrs May said: "I have noticed that my Honourable Friend is shortly to appear on a channel 4 programme called Celebrity First Dates.
"What I'm not sure about is whether my Honourable Friend is the celebrity or the first date," she joked.
Mr Fabricant grinned as fellow MPs from across the House roared with laughter at the revelation.
