Prime Minister Theresa May revealed during Prime Minister's Questions on Wednesday that Mr Fabricant will try to find love on Channel 4 programme Celebrity First Dates.

But during culture questions in the Commons, Mr Fabricant said he would not appear on the daring dating show Naked Attraction which sees a clothed person select who they want to date from six naked people.

He said: "Can I just say to you, Mr Speaker, to make it absolutely clear: I will not be appearing on Naked Attraction."

Speaker John Bercow replied: "Whether you were to do so it would constitute a cultural industry is probably a divisible proposition in the House."

Culture Secretary Karen Bradley said: "My breath was taken away by the very suggestion."

Mr Fabricant, who has previously described himself as "not exclusively gay", had raised the West Midlands' bid to host the Commonwealth Games when the PM made the revelation on Wednesday.

She said: "I have noticed that he is shortly to appear on a Channel 4 programme called Celebrity First Dates.

"What I'm not sure about is whether he is the celebrity or the first date."

Celebrity First Dates sees singletons paired up for dinner at a central London restaurant and the date, as well as their reaction afterwards, is filmed.

Mr Fabricant, 67, instantly recognisable in Parliament for his unmistakable thatch of blond hair, was treated for prostate cancer last year.

He said he was taking part in the show to raise money for Cancer Research, which would receive his £25,000 fee.
