In between helping visitors on and off the two-minute vintage aerial ride, Emma Dingley, a member of the customer services team, is keeping an eagle eye out for feathered friends.

Conservation officer, Chris Leeson, said: “We have lots of native wildlife on site which we hope to identify.

“Emma is a keen birdwatcher and when she’s on chairlift duty she’s in a prime location at the top of the zoo site to spot them, so she’s keeping a running checklist for me.

“So far she’s spotted a wide variety of birds including two different species of woodpecker, kestrels, swifts, house martins and ravens.

“We hope to share our findings with other BIAZA collections, who are surveying which species are using zoos as habitats.”

Emma, who holds a trainee bird ringing licence, will also be leading a bird ringing demonstration on site alongside Brewood Ringers this Saturday.
