Security at Wolverhampton venue to be reassessed
Security at the Civic Hall is set to be fully assessed in light of "recent events in the UK."
The city centre entertainment venue is currently undergoing a £14.4 million refurbishment which will see a new balcony installed at the rear of the venue.
Councillors are now set to approve a further £150,000 expenditure on surveys to identify if future maintenance and repairs can be minimised and on a review of the need for any additional public safety requirements that should be included in the revamp.
In May 22 people were killed in a suicide bomb attack at an Ariana Grande concert at Manchester Arena.
Council documents, state: "A full assessment of the building - its operation, management, control, security, fire systems, etc - are required in light of recent events in the UK.
"This will include the design, specification and quantification of any additional works to management, safety and security of building necessary to make systems operate at optimum levels, have resilience, and be capable of a 25-year lifespan following completion with warranties."
The surveys are set to be commissioned at a meeting tomorrow with a view to completion by October.
